This plant is in many gardens and along trails in our
town, a very hardy, but elegant, orchid-like flower that seems to smile
at you as you pass by. |
My favorite flower. Every year near Mothers Day, my garden
would come alive with purple blooms and remind me of when my mother
planted them years earlier. It has been a gift of love every year since. |
Blue & White China Bouquet I started this painting with the blue and white pitcher and then filled it with flowers. Instead of a table I wanted to add one of my favorite tablecloths that is sheer with Battenberg lace and appliqués. It all seemed to fit together like a familiar tablesetting. |

you to see the moon, but not notice the musicians at first glance. |
On The Beach This painting was created in a Jane Slivka workshop. The technique
used was to coat the canvas with orange, then you paint the subject
matter while attempting to leave some of the orange to "glow
through". |
Passion This painting was done with interactive acrylics and it was fun to be able to paint with a longer open time. This enabled me to try new techniques without the hurry of getting it right before the paint dried |
Red Poinsettia Awoke early and painted all day until it was complete. This was a
joy to paint. |
Welcome I was working with painting interesting doorways and windows. It looked so "welcoming" to me. |
Wheelbarrow in the Garden An old wheelbarrow caught my eye, and I envisioned a garden with
a shade tree in the corner of the yard. |
White Hydrangeas This painting was created by coating the canvas with orange, then
you paint the subject matter while attempting to leave some of the

Drizzle Zebra A fun experiment created by drizzling an acrylic outline and then using watercolor in a wet on wet technique. |
40 mph This is my son in law Dan with his mortorcycle that he received for his 40th birthday. |
Urban Sprawl This was my first abstract. Although it may appear random, you need to be aware of where you want your color in the composition. I worked from dark to light starting with pure black pigment pulling the color through the painting until it was dry brush strokes. |
Butterflies in Flight This began with a wet on wet wash of color in the background. Next you apply special "unryu" Japanese Paper which develops the flowers, an adds texture. The butterfly details are added last. |

Rooster I painted this in a Walt Roman workshop, this subject was used to
practice various strokes. |
![]() |
Rusted Pitcher Pastels are fun to draw with and this color paper was chosen because it was close in value to the rusted pitcher. How much to draw and how much of the paper to allow to show through was the task. |
Showing Off This was a second piece that was used to practice working with different
strokes while taking a Walt Roman course. |
Wine and Fruit This still life was created in a Walt Roman workshop. I changed the
composition, and added a flower arrangement. |
Zach in Pastel I had been exploring the possibilities and wanted to see how a pastel
portrait would compare to the one I did of Zachary in watercolor. |
Merry Christmas from Florida I painted this to send to all our friends and family buried in cold
and snow in the Northeast. |
Endurance My goal was to paint a tree that struggled to endure, and withstand
the test of time. This earned me my first Pen & Ink award which
meant I had earned an award in all three mediums. |
Ernestine II I sketched this scene of a half sunken boat on the dock at Lake Sumter
Landing and finished it in pen & ink. I used watercolor paper

Low Country on This view from the 12th hole at Hilton Head Country Club, with it's
marshes of many shades of green and blue, was framed by the delicate
elegance of the Live Oak branches. It is such a peaceful place. |
Port Orleans A favorite spot for my husband & I, where the shadows create
a mirror image of the palm trees. Port Orleans Hotel in Disney World. |
Serenity I attempted to capture the lace-like look of the canopy of leaves
above this Live Oak, with it's twisting trunk and branches. My inspiration
came from viewing an exhibit of Bonsai Trees. |
Shadows on the Boardwalk The shadows were casting a playful pattern on the boardwalk and I
captured it in Pen & Ink. I like to add a splash of color in with
the black and white, and the Lighthouse at the end of the dock was
the natural choice. |
Steam Clock on Market Square It was a challenge to capture all the different textures in this
scene. The clock whistles on the hour and is a local landmark |
![]() |
Butterfly Buffet The butterfly was drawn on a Fabriano Artistico hot press watercolor paper with ink and washes of watercolor added later. Stippling brought the delicate wings to life. |
![]() |
Corner Bait Shop I was looking for a subject to paint in ink & watercolor. There was a building decorated in fishing gear and I liked the bottom corner and how the sun made a pattern behind the fish netting and dried up cork. |

Harlequin Macaw Commissioned piece for someone who wanted a tropical, colorful, painting
to brighten up her wall. I decided to create a "Triptych"
a work of art composed of three separate pieces, usually displayed
together. The three paintings were painted at the same time to maintain
continuity of colors, however, each piece can stand on it's own. The
Harlequin is a hybrid offspring of the Blue & Gold and Scarlet
Macaws. |

Brown Derby I am drawn to subjects with linear perspective. This is the Brown Derby Restaurant at Disneys MGM and I started this painting with a pen & ink sketch on Fabriano smooth watercolor paper. Then an underpainting was done to capture the lights. The shadows were put in next with blues and purples where all the shadows would be. Wet washes of analogous color were layered until I captured the mood I wanted. |

I started with a baby buffalo. I was one of nine winners out of 130
entrants. It hangs in The Villages Charter Middle School, where my
grandchildren attend. |
Butterfly Garden The only colors I used were yellow and blue. This wet in wet technique to start a background is lots of fun and helps to ease you into a painting. The paint was laid down and interesting shades of color start to immerge. Laying down a sheet of plastic wrap on top of the wet color leaves you with lots of textures when it all dries. The fun starts when you can work magic by putting in lots of negative painting to bring out your subjects. The only positive shape I painted was the large yellow butterfly. Can you see the grasshopper and praying mantis? There are seven other butterflies as well. |
C C Rider I met with Craig Creamer, a local Polo Player and businessman in

it in Watercolor. This boat was intentionally sunk in the lake, and

two months. The boat survived, but will never look this way again. |

Polo Boots Boots that have traveled the world worn by local Polo enthusiast
Craig Creamer. |
Polo Gear I met with Craig Creamer, a local Polo Player and businessman in
my hometown to take photos of horses and Polo equipment. He had a
pair of boots with sterling silver buckles, spurs, and monogrammed
initials in the brown leather. I knew when I saw them I would have
to paint them, along with the kneepads and white leather helmet. There
was so much character in all of them I felt nothing else was needed
in the painting. This painting earned me a first place Blue Ribbon.
Polo Heaven This was my entry for a local Polo exhibit. I decided to paint just
the stadium, without horses, players or spectators. As I washed in
the sky and clouds, I put in a horse to stand guard over the field.
During the exhibit, a Polo player looked at my painting and immediately
spotted the white horse in the clouds, it reminded her of her favorite
horse that she recently lost. As an artist I attempt to draw out emotion
from the person viewing my work, and that day the magic happened.
I won my first ribbon for this painting. |
Polo Pony I met with Craig Creamer, a local Polo Player and businessman in
